 "...Lycoming College is committed to the creation and maintenance of a living-learning environment, which fosters the intellectual, personal, social, and ethical development of its students.  Respect for the rights of others and self-discipline are essential for the fulfillment of these goals.  The Code of Conduct is designed to explain the rights and responsibilities inherent in membership in this academic community.  Students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with all applicable policies and regulations.  Ignorance of policies regarding expected behavior will not be accepted as a defense or excuse.  Members of the Student Senate should recognize that their actions will reflect upon the entire Student Senate and its members.  Such failure to abide by the aforementioned Code of Conduct will result in the Executive President referring the matter to the appropriate committees for review..."

General Committee on Academic Affairs

The functions of this committee are as follows:
• To act upon the proposals submitted to it by its subordinate committees regarding academic, curricular, and instructional policies and to submit them in an approved form to the faculty for action.
• To review graduation requirements in terms of courses and performance level and to propose appropriate changes to the faculty.
• To approve appointments made by the Faculty Executive Committee (faculty approval 5/5/93).
• To consider the instruction budget.

Academic Standards Committee

The functions of this committee are as follows:
• To review, evaluate, and recommend policies and practices concerning academic standards.
• To review the records of all students whose academic performances are less than satisfactory and who, by virtue of such performance, are in danger of dismissal from the college.
• To develop guidelines consistent with faculty policy for use by the Dean of the College in dismissing, suspending, or placing on academic probation students who have not maintained the minimum academic standards required by the college.
• To act as an appellate committee for decisions made by the Dean of the College to dismiss, suspend, or place on academic probation students who have not maintained the minimum academic standards required by the college. In such cases, the Dean of the College is not considered to be a member of the Committee, but rather a party of the appeal.
• To dismiss or otherwise penalize students guilty of academic dishonesty in accordance with the faculty policy on academic dishonesty.
• To approve or disapprove applications for re-admittance by those students suspended for academic reasons.
• To review and act upon petitions for exceptions to academic policies.
• To act as an appellate committee for individual student petitions acted upon initially by other academic committees and departments.

Curriculum Development Committee

The functions of this committee are as follows:
• To review, evaluate, and make recommendations to the General Committee on Academic Affairs concerning all proposals for curricular change. It is understood that the committee may not reject proposals for curricular change, but may refer them back to proposers for refinement and may recommend that the GCAA or the faculty not approve proposals.
• To initiate proposals for change in the college curriculum.
• To establish and publicize procedures for submitting proposals for curricular changes.
• To maintain an awareness of curricular trends among the colleges and to be sensitive to the effectiveness of the college curriculum in terms of meeting the goals of the college and those of the students.
• To establish and publicize guidelines for the preparation of proposals for Individual Interdisciplinary Majors (IIM) and to review and approve such proposals.
• To act on proposals for curricular change within four weeks of receipt of the proposals. If additional time is needed, the Committee may request an extension of time from the chairperson of the General Committee on Academic Affairs for a period not to exceed six weeks from the date of receipt of proposals.

Individual Studies Committee

The functions of this committee are as follows:
• To establish standards and guidelines for the preparation of proposals for independent study, and to review and approve same.
• To establish standards and guidelines for the preparation of proposals for departmental honors programs, to review and approve such proposals, and to certify to the Registrar the successful completion of requirements for graduation with departmental honors.
• To establish standards and guidelines for the preparation of proposals for internships, and to review and approve such proposals.
• To maintain a continuing evaluation of the programs under its supervision and to make suggestions for changes to the Committee on Curriculum Development, for recommendation to the GCAA and the faculty.

Teacher Education Programs Committee

The functions of this committee are as follows:
• To advise the Department of Education on all matters of policy relating to teacher education certification programs.
• To assist the Department of Education in the management of the teacher education programs at the request of the department.
• To make recommendations to the Faculty about those changes in the teacher education programs upon which the Faculty must vote.
• To concern itself with such other matters involving teacher education programs as it believes important.

Academic Computing Committee

The functions of this committee are as follows:
• To recommend policies and procedures on matters regarding academic computing.
• To promote wider use, acceptance, and integration of computers in the academic program.
• To recommend priorities for computing needs and purchases.

Student Affairs Committee

The functions of this committee are as follows:
• To serve as a recognizable liaison between the Office of Student Affairs and the faculty.
• To consult with and advise the Dean of Student Affairs on pertinent matters relative to student life.
• To be aware, through ongoing communication and meetings with the Dean of Student Affairs and other Student Affairs staff, of the various co-curricular programs, services and activities afforded to students and other members of the college community through the Division of Student Affairs.

Admissions, Financial Aid, and Retention Committee

The functions of this committee are as follows:
• To work with the Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid in the evaluation, formulation, and implementation of the admission and financial aid policies of the college.
• To work with appropriate officers of the college in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of programs to improve student retention.
• To advise appropriate officers of the college in other areas which affect student enrollment, retention and satisfaction.

Prizes and Honorary Degrees Committee

The functions of this committee are as follows:
• To compile a list of students who qualify for prizes and awards, and to submit nominations to the faculty in cases where the final choice of recipient is made by the faculty.
• To nominate in coordination with the President of the College and with the Committee on Honorary Degrees of the Board of Trustees all candidates for such degrees. The faculty and the Board of Trustees must approve candidates.

Teaching Effectiveness Committee

The functions of this committee are as follows:
• To encourage a collaborative and supportive environment for faculty interested in promoting quality teaching and instructional development in undergraduate teaching.
• To develop, implement, and promote teaching and learning initiatives and activities.
• To serve as a resource for individual faculty members by providing opportunities to discuss, practice, and evaluate teaching philosophies and styles in a confidential setting.
