Iota Beta History

I.B. #1 is Stanley McFarland, Jr.
Iota-Beta Zeta (our chapter) was founded on May 16, 1953.
Our Chapter house stood at 635 Franklin Street.
We were installed by Pennsylvania State University (Zeta Zeta).
We were originally Lambda Phi Delta – founded in 1948 at Lycoming College.
There were 13 original members in the initiation ritual, which was written by Bruce Crissy.
The First President of Lambda Phi Delta was Bruce Crissy.
Before we merged with Lambda Chi Alpha as Lambda Phi Delta – the fraternity was called “New Fraternity at Lycoming” (NFL).
In 1949, William S. Hoffman was appointed academic dean of Lycoming College.
He was Zeta # 11 at Penn State University, one of the founding brothers of that chapter, and after holding a national office, had close ties with the Grand High Zeta.
He was interregnal in attracting national attention and helping get things started at Lycoming.
Lambda Chi Alpha adopted fraternity education in 1972.
Iota-Beta Zeta adopted Fraternity Education in 1974.
Paul DeJoseph is I.B. 500.
In 1972, we were down to the “Magnificent Seven”. Only seven men remained in the fraternity.
