Ph Ed Course Requirements


Grades for the Lycoming College Ph Ed Karate Course are based on the following criteria: Regularity of attendance, class participation, physical skills and written tests.

Each student will begin the course with a base grade of 85 points. Throughout the seven (7) week course each students performance will be evaluated with points being added or subtracted from the base grade of 85 points. Final grades will take into account the following areas performance factors:

+1.00to+5.00 pointsSkill ability
+5.00to-10.00 pointsWritten test
-10.00 pointsNon-participation
-1.00to-5.00 pointsNot completing class requirements
-1.00to-5.00 pointsUn-sportsman like conduct, not following directives and the class requirements


All students are required to change clothing in order to participate in this karate course. It is recommended that students wear tee-shirts and sweat pants. Karate uniforms can be purchased from their instructor. Although karate uniforms are available, they are not a course requirement.

It is recommended that students leave any valuables, such as jewelry, watches and money in a secure environment. Don't bring them to class where they could be mislaid or stolen.

Taking any physical education course involves your direct participation. A lack of participation will greatly effect a students final grade. Notes requesting to be excused from class will be honored. If a student is excused from class for a period of time, they will be given written work in order to obtain a final grade. Keep in mind this is a graded class. If a student is well enough to attend other classes, its is their responsibility to at least show up and explain why they can't participate in this physical education course.

Any physical limitations, such as an injury that would limit your class participation should be reported to the your instructor immediately.
